TWENTY YEARS AGO — Corey Gordon finishes 18th overall with a time of 18 minutes and eight seconds on the five-kilometer course to lead North Natchez’s cross country team to an impressive ninth-place finish at the Mississippi College Cross Country Meet.

TEN YEARS AGO — In his first start in nearly three weeks, 22-year-old rookie pitcher Livan Hernandez strikes out an NLCS-record 15 batters and retires 17 of the last 18 batters he faces as the Florida Marlins defeat the Atlanta Braves 3-2 to move one win away from the World Series.

FIVE YEARS AGO — Mississippi State freshman defensive back Darren Williams has three of the Bulldogs’ six interceptions and Kevin Fant’s 15-yard touchdown pass to Fred Reid in the third quarter proves to be huge as the Bulldogs hold on to defeat the Troy State Trojans 11-8.
