BRANDON — Javon Washington threw four touchdown passes and got some help from a running game that has been non-existent for the last several weeks as the Natchez High Bulldogs defeated the Brandon Bulldogs 35-28 Friday night in Region 3-5A action.

The winning touchdown came on a 12-yard pass from Washington to Rico Richardson in the fourth quarter. Brandon (2-4, 0-3) had one last chance to either tie or win the game, but Brian Isaac intercepted a Jason Hicks pass with less than 30 seconds left to preserve the win.

Natchez High’s offense was as balanced as it has been all season. The visiting Bulldogs had 240 total rushing yards on 31 carries to go with 175 passing yards. Another important key to their win was that they turned the ball over just one time.

“That’s something we’ve been working on the last few weeks,” Natchez High head coach Lance Reed said about the running game. “We finally executed our offense the way we wanted. We’ve wanted to run the ball.”

Washington completed 13 of 21 passes for 172 yards and Richardson completed one pass for three yards. Washington threw one touchdown pass and Travis Isaac had a 3-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to help Natchez High (3-4, 1-2) tie the score at 14-14 at halftime.

Thomas Hughes had just two catches, but both went for touchdowns — 32 yards in the second quarter and 16 yards in the third quarter. Deshawn Griggs, who had five catches for 69 yards, caught a 14-yard touchdown pass from Washington in the third quarter.

“He did a good job taking what was given to him,” Reed said of Washington. “He threw the ball in a timely manner.”

Other than the one interception at the end of the game, Hicks had an outstanding game for the host Bulldogs as he completed 19 of 21 passes for 187 yards. Patrick Durr led their running game with 162 yards rushing on 29 carries.

“We just gave up a couple of big plays,” Reed said. “We made a stop at the end when they were trying to score. We haven’t won in a while. The season’s not over yet.”

LaSalle 40, Block 7

JONESVILLE, La. — One week after Block won its first game in nearly two full seasons, LaSalle made sure that winning streak would not go to two games as the Tigers defeated the Bears Friday night in District 3-1A action.

Block’s only touchdown was in the first quarter on a 10-yard touchdown pass from Evan White to Chris Davis. Hunter Key and Curdarius Johnson combined for 151 of the team’s 199 rushing yards.
