NATCHEZ — The 0-8 ACCS Rebels host another tough team in the 6-2 Prairie View Academy Spartans Friday.

“They are another quality team we have to play,” ACCS head coach Paul Hayles said.

In last week’s loss, the Rebel defense gave up a season-low 23 points, but the offense could only muster six.

“We were in striking distance all the way to the fourth quarter,” Hayles said. “Turnovers hurt us and the defense got worn out.”

Hayles said the focus of this week’s practice has been on fundamentals and sustaining offensive drives.

“We have been working in groups to address fundamentals,” Hayles said.

ACCS will continue to pound the ball using running back Lee Guedon.

“It doesn’t matter whether he gets 10 carries or 30, he runs just as hard,” Hayles said.

Hayles said Prairie View uses a power running attack, spreading the ball to a number of backs.

“The key to beating them is jumping out early and containing their run game,” Hayles said. “We are going to use multiple fronts to make them earn every yard.”

Hayles said his team has had a long season but he was proud of the way they continued to fight.

“It’s easy when things are going good,” Hayles said. “But it’s a testament to these kids’ fortitude for the way they come out each week and fight and put forth their best effort.”
