Ferriday — A Vidalia man was arrested Wednesday night for possession of almost one-half a pound of marijuana.

LaBrendan R. White, 26, 329 Moose Lodge Road, Vidalia, was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, no driver’s license and reckless operation of a vehicle Wednesday.

White was allegedly found to have approximately 190 grams of marijuana — worth approximately $500 — in the vehicle he allegedly crashed.

The Ferriday Police responded to a call of shots fired in the approximate area of Delaware Avenue and Louisiana 15 Wednesday evening, Police Chief Richard Madison said.

While officers were responding to the call, White reportedly got into his vehicle and started to leave a parking lot near the scene when he lost control of the vehicle, Madison said.

“He thought the officers were coming after him,” Madison said.

When the vehicle entered a ditch, it rolled and the officers on the scene went to the vehicle to assist White.

At the crash site, the officers found a green leafy substance that was suspected marijuana, some of which had been bagged in cellophane, Madison said.

The suspected marijuana was transported to the state crime lab for testing Thursday morning, Madison said

White was handed a three-year suspended sentence Oct. 24 for possession of cocaine.
