NATCHEZ — The AYA football league had their championship games at the ACCS football field Saturday evening.

The first game pitted the third and fourth grade Reeve’s Drugstore Green Wave against the Concordia Bank Rams.

After pulling away from the Rams 28-20 late in the fourth quarter, a costly fumble by the Green Wave allowed the Rams a shot at the tie.

“It was bad mistake,” Reeve’s Drugstore coach Reagan White said. “I was nervous to the end.”

A run by Luke Littleton put the Rams in a position to tie the game at 28 but the Green Wave defense held firm to prevent the two-point conversion.

“It was tight at the end,” White said. “The defense stepped up.”

Green Wave quarterback Andrew Beesley threw for three touchdowns in the contest.

“I knew I had to hit my receivers,” Beesley, 10, said. “This was a real fun game. I was happy we won.”

The fifth and sixth grade championship game was just as tough.

The Silas Simmons LLP Saints defeated the Dr. Guedon Rebels 8-0.

“All the hard work paid off,” Saints coach Ruffin Cross said.

The only score of the game came on the first play from the line scrimmage. Running back Caleb Cross broke loose for a 70-yard run.

“I didn’t think it would be the winning touchdown,” Caleb said. “This was a hard game. (Dr. Guedon) is a tough team to play.”

Ruffin said after the first score, the game turned into a defensive struggle.

“Our defense won the game for us,” Ruffin said. “This is a great group of kids. They played hard tonight.”
