JONESVILLE – Services for Gilbert Smith, 85, of Jonesville, who died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007, at St. Francis Cabrini Hospital, in Alexandria, La., will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis Relaford officiating.

Burial will follow at Heard Cemetery, in Manifest, La., under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Jonesville.

Visitation will be at 5 p.m. today at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Mr. Smith was born April 1, 1922, in Jonesville, the son of William Joseph Smith and Mary Creel Smith. He was retired from the state highway department and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Harris Smith; his parents; sister, Louise Rainey; and brother, Joseph “Lil Joe” Smith.

Survivors include his brother, Bilbo Smith; and sister, Elsie Coleman, both of Jonesville.
