Pianist Richard Dowling to perform Thursday

The Concordia Parish Library will present Richard Dowling, Baldwin Master Pianist, in a performance scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday in the Concordia Bank Lobby in Vidalia.
Hailed by “The New York Times” as an “especially impressive fine young pianist,” Richard Dowling appears regularly across the United States in solo recitals and concerts with orchestras. In the United States he has received nationwide attention for recitals seen on the PBS television program Debut, and heard on the NPR radio program Performance Today.
His career highlights include a sold-out New York orchestral debut at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall and a solo recital at Carnegie’s We’ll Recital Hall in New York. His recordings include, George Gershwin and Chopin.
He has performed in China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, South Africa, Germany, Austria and France. He has received glowing reviews that praise him as “a master of creating beautiful sounds with impeccable control of colors and textures” and for giving “a superb recital that left he audience craving for more at the end.”
He studied at the Conservatoire in Nice, received the Grand Prix from the French Piano Institute, and made his formal debut in Paris at the Salle Cortot.
Dowling also was honored with the Lockwood Award for performing the best recital and the Simonds Award for outstanding solo and ensemble performance while studying at Yale University.
The New York City based Piatigorsky Foundation is co-sponsoring this concert. The Piatigorsky Foundation’s mission is to make live classical music part of the fabric of every day life for communities throughout the United States.
Dowling will perform classical music, selections from Gershwin, and some ragtime favorites. Concordia Parish Library has co-sponsored concerts with the Piatigorsky Foundation in past years, and their musicians are excellent performing artist. Richard Dowling will be a treat for all music lovers.
