Walker has tough job ahead of him

Life for Eddie Walker probably isn’t going quite as planned.
The newly elected Adams County circuit clerk thought he had another month or so to prepare for his job.
He doesn’t.
A ruling by Judge Joe Webster Monday sent former clerk M.L. “Binkey” Vines packing and Walker unpacking.
And though it may not be an easy transition for Walker, the situation is likely for the best.
It’s time that our county’s circuit clerk office clean house. With Vines’ accounting troubles out in the open and his sentence handed down it is best to go ahead and put Walker in place to make change.
Walker’s job is both easy and difficult all at once.
He’s responsible for cleaning up a messy office — that’s difficult.
But his most basic duty is honesty — that’s easy.
Walker has said he plans to learn from nearby circuit clerks who’ve made good names for themselves. That’s a smart move, and we hope they’ll all be willing to lend a helping hand.
The citizens of Adams County elected Walker, and they’ll likely support him as long as things stay clean.
We trust in Walker’s ability to tackle the easy and the difficult parts of his job.
It’s high time we began restoring credibility to Adams County.
