Parish residents to vote today

VIDALIA — Voters will head to the polls today to determine who will fill two state-level offices and one local office, as well as the fate of alcohol sales in the Monterey area.

Polls will open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

To vote, qualified voters need to bring a photo ID such as a Louisiana driver’s license or a Louisiana Special ID.

Those without a photo ID may bring a utility bill, payroll check or government document that includes their address on it, and will have to sign an affidavit verifying their information.

On the ballot are:

4A run-off for state attorney general between Republican Royal Alexander and Democrat James D. “Buddy” Caldwell.

4A run-off for the 32nd Senatorial District between Democrat Bryant O. Hammett Jr. and Republican Neil Riser.

4A run-off for the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education District 5 seat between Democrat Keith Guice and Republican Ruth Ulrich.

4A run-off for Police Jury District 4 Place A between Democrats Jerry Beatty and Cathy Darden.

Also on the ballot will be a referrendum that — if all five propositions fail — will eliminate the sale of alcohol in Police Jury District 5B, which includes the Monterey area.

They will read as follows:

4Proposition No. 1: Shall the sale of beverages of alcoholic content containing not more than 6 percent alcohol by volume be permitted by package only and not for consumption on the premises in Election District 5B of the Parish of Concordia, State of Louisiana?

4Proposition No. 2: Shall the sales of beverages of alcoholic content containing not more than 6 percent alcohol by volume for consumption on the premises be permitted in Election District 5B of the Parish of Concordia, State of Louisiana?

4Proposition No. 3: Shall the sale of beverage alcohol containing 1/2 percent alcohol by volume and above for consumption on the premises be permitted in Election District 5B of the Parish of Concordia, State of Louisiana?

4Proposition No. 4: Shall the sale of beverages of alcoholic content containing 1/2 percent alcohol by volume and above by the package only and not for consumption on the premises be permitted in Election District 5B of the Parish of Concordia, State of Louisiana?

4Proposition No. 5: Shall the sale of beverages of high and low alcoholic content be permitted only on the premises of restaurant establishments which have been issued an “R” permit, as defined by law, in Election District 5B of the Parish of Concordia, State of Louisiana?
