Football gives us a reason to cheer

Is there something in our water?
A chemical that creates big, strong, healthy young men? A substance that makes teen boys quick on their feet and gives them talent on the field?
You’d think so by the looks of the high school football lineup still on tap for the postseason.
Tonight, the area will see two local teams — Trinity and Centreville — fight it out for the right to play in the MPSA Class AA South State Championship. No matter what, our area will have a team in that state championship game.
Up the road a bit, Franklin County will take on Newton County for the right to play in the next round.
And from across the river, Huntington will travel to Glenbrook to challenge for the Class A South State Championship.
This area has a long history of successful football programs, and we are used to having at least one team battle for a state title — four is even better.
But it isn’t the water. We know that.
The “chemical” in this area is faithful, dedicated coaches and parents who are committed to seeing their students truly learn from the game.
When you tackle every football practice as a chance for a life lesson, the chance for a statewide title is going to take care of itself.
Good luck to all our local teams.
