GLOSTER – Services for Maurine Robertson Bowlin, of Montgomery, Ala., formerly of the Homochitto community near Gloster, who died Friday, Nov. 23, 2007, at her residence, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Brown Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Booth Poole officiating.
Burial will follow at Mount Vernon Methodist Church Cemetery under the direction of Brown Funeral Home in Gloster.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Bowlin was a dedicated teacher for 39 years and was the first classroom teacher to serve as president of the Mississippi Retired Teacher’s Association. She was a unique individual who loved to travel, reminisce and exchange loving stories about her family, friends and former students. Under her leadership, the Mississippi Retired Teachers Association grew by leaps and bounds because of her unselfish willingness to go wherever and whenever she was called to speak.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Bowlin and niece-in-law, Murl Strong.
Survivors include her loving son, Johnny Bowlin and wife, Tina, both of Montgomery, Ala.; grandchildren, John Michael Bowlin of Kiln and Bonnie Wall and husband, Jeff, both of Florence; four great-grandchildren; her beloved niece, Jeanette Hood; beloved nephews, Lavon Strong and wife, Ann, Rayford Strong and wife, Nelda, Billy Joe strong and wife, Carolyn, David Strong and wife, Debra, and Byford Strong; a number of great-nieces and great-nephews.
