Green Wave ends tourney with win

monterey — The Cathedral Green Wave capped off a perfect run at the Monterey Wolf Basketball Tournament with a 51-44 victory over LaSalle.

The Green Wave (7-1) finished the round-robin tournament with a 3-0 record to win the trophy.

Cathedral led only 23-19 at halftime but outscored LaSalle 13-2 in the third quarter to pull away for the win.

Juan Gray led the Green Wave with 31 points while Andy Lucas scored 14 in the winning effort.

LaSalle girls 52, Cathedral 45

The Cathedral Lady Wave couldn’t replicate the boys success as they fell to LaSalle by seven points.

The second quarter proved decisive in the game as Cathedral was outscored 27-10.

The Lady Wave unleashed a furious comeback in the fourth quarter, outscoring LaSalle by 16 points, but came up short.

Betsy Daggett and Kristian Dobard led Cathedral (1-7) with 10 points apiece while Mae Durkin and Haley Forman both scored six.

LaSalle’s Hillary Guinn led all scorers with 17 points while Emily Rankin scored 15 and Brittany Johnson tallied 13 for LaSalle.

Huntington girls 29, Silliman 27

The Huntington Lady Hounds pulled out a close game in the Silliman Tournament to take a two-point win over the host school.

Huntington (5-5) was led by Julia Corbett led the Lady Hounds with seven points while Donna Tarver and Phyllicia Woods scored six.

Katelin Palermo led Silliman with nine points.

Late Soccer

Cathedral boys 1, Loyd Star 0

The Cathedral boys soccer team had to work overtime to outlast Loyd Star in their first district game of the season.

After playing to a scoreless tie after regulation and two overtimes, the Wave won a penalty kick shootout 3-2.

Julian Stubbs, David Jenson and goalkeeper Jessie Morrison scored the goals in the shootout while Morrison stopped enough Loyd Star shots for the Wave to come out on top.
