VIDALIA — Santa waved and candy flew in Vidalia Sunday afternoon at the town’s annual Christmas parade.
People lined Carter Street to get a better view of snowmen and Santa Claus.
Vidalia resident Tammy Jones sat on the bed of a pickup with friends Tara and Robert Stanley watching the parade go by.
“I have a child in the parade,” Jones said. “I guess I’ve got kinfolk on every float. But kids or no kids on a float, we come every year. And the kids like the candy.”
Children and adults alike scrambled for candy as celebrities like Santa and Elvis spread the Christmas cheer. Christmas music blasted from floats and cars.
Lakeisha Bell’s niece marched in the band. But even if she hadn’t, Bell would have come. She’s a regular at the town’s holiday parade.
“I’m always here,” Bell said. “It’s a tradition.”
Evelyn and James Stigall came to see their granddaughter, Callie Dallalio, ride on one of the floats.
“We always come to the parade, just to enjoy it.” Evelyn Stigall said. “We get in the holiday spirit.”
The couple’s rat terrier, Molly, tagged along, too.
“She’ll run over you for a piece of candy,” James Stigall said, handing her a Tootsie Roll.
The Vidalia parade followed Saturday’s Ferriday parade.
Natchez will have its parade at 6 p.m. Saturday.
