Family night at school set for Thurs.

The Natchez Adams School District will have its annual district wide family math, science, literacy and technology night 6 p.m. at Robert Lewis Middle on Thursday. The family night is a night where students and their parents are invited to a series of math, science, technology and literacy activities together. Parents will work side by side as they share with their child in an evening of presentations, family projects, and fun with the focus on the excitement of “learning” math, science, technology and literacy.

Representatives from each school K-8 will present. West Primary school, K-1st grade, will present “Math Made Fun” – songs, games, and strategies focusing on tips and ideas, presenters Vicki Watts and Felicia Mann for grades K-2, “Science Made Loud” – presenters, Laurie Wells and Courtney Feltus for grades K-5, and Shannon Brown and Kit Spears will present to parents for grade K-5, “Fun with Math and Science.”

Frazier Primary presenters Karen Collins and Amanda Wilson will present a workshop entitled “Innovations/Fun in Improving Math Skills” for grades 1-2.

Teachers from Morgantown for grades 5-6 will focus on MCT-2 Math; presenters are Toni Martin – fifth Grade Math Teacher, Lauren Mullins – fifth Grade, and Betty Morris, sixth Grade Math.

McLaurin Elementary school will focus on the third and fourth grade MCT-2.

Robert Lewis Middle School (grades 7-8) will focus on the areas of Math and Science. Parents will work side by side with Math teacher Gloria J. Ford on MCT-2 and Science presented by Annette Tyler and Ruthie Washington.

Natchez High School parents can visit the library for e-mail and computer training by Nick Peterman, District wide Technology Coordinator. All parents will learn about e-mails and how to e-mail teachers, family, friends, retrieve homework and visit the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) for Subject Area Testing Program (SATP).

The evening will being with a Technology presentation (the Promethean Board) by Annette Tyler and Ruthie Washington. Our district’s technology coordinator, Nick Peterman, will be available for additional tech information. Peterman will inform parents what the district has to offer by way of technology.

We are inviting all area parents and students to this family night, a night where both parents and students have an opportunity to hear the same instructions and participate in the actual learning process together.

All school parent liaisons will be available to tell parents what’s available at the parent centers for check out. Parent Liaisons are: West Primary, Annie Barnes; Frazier Primary, Deborah Lyles; McLaurin, Cookie Gibbons; Morgantown, Evelyn Hutchins; and Robert Lewis Middle School, Joyce Newell. Remember, this is a district wide activity. So, we are expecting to see parents from all schools in attendance.

Robert Lewis Middle School, on Thursday, Dec. 6, at 6 p.m. is the place to be for family night at its best! All schools will be represented.
