Bus accident victim recovering

VIDALIA — The woman whose car collided with a Concordia Parish school bus Tuesday afternoon is in serious condition but recovering.

Amber Delaune, 21, of Ferriday, was ejected from her car after it was struck by a school bus driven by Joyce Banks, 52, of Ferriday.

The collision happened on U.S. 84 eastbound before Banks had picked up any children.

for the afternoon, and occurred while she was trying to turn the bus, state police officials said at the time.

Delaune suffered a punctured lung, six broken ribs and several of her teeth were knocked out, her father Eddie Delaune said.

After being airlifted from Riverland Medical Center to LSU-Shreveport Medical Center Tuesday evening, she underwent surgery to remove her spleen and repair damage to her liver, Eddie Delaune said.

Amber Delaune was placed on a ventilator to assist her breathing, but the ventilator was removed by 8 a.m. Wednesday morning, Eddie Delaune said.

While she is still in intensive care, it is expected Amber will be moved to an inpatient care room in a few days, Eddie Delaune said.
