NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A work boat hit a wellhead near Venice Tuesday. Nine people were on board; the Coast Guard says six were injured.
Initially, four had been reported hurt. But Chief Petty Officer Mike O’Berry says the agency received conflicting information early on.
The Coast Guard now says six of the crew were taken by helicopter; four were met by ambulances and the other two were flown to a hospital. Boats brought two others to shore, and the captain stayed behind with a rescue boat crew.
O’Berry says the reported injuries included bruising, lower back pain, a fractured femur and a broken clavicle.
The Coast Guard is investigating the accident
