Logan leads Natchez to win

TERRY — Kendall Logan led three Natchez High players in double figures with a game-high 16 points as the Natchez High Bulldogs defeated the Terry Bulldogs 66-47 Tuesday night in Division 6-5A action.

James Reed finished with 12 points and Kenny Jackson scored 11 points for the visiting Bulldogs, who took a 14-9 lead after one quarter of play and gradually kept adding to their lead after that.

The win was a big one for Natchez High, which improved to 8-4 overall and 1-1 in division play. A loss could have put the Bulldogs in a big hole in 6-5A at 0-2, but they made sure that didn’t happen on this night.

J. Watkins led Terry with 13 points and B. Anderson chipped in with nine points.

Cathedral boys 64, Bogue Chitto 47

BOGUE CHITTO — Even though Bogue Chitto held Juan Gray to 16 points, he also had seven assists while Andy Lucas had a double-double to lead the Green Wave past the Bobcats Tuesday night in the Region 8-1A opener for both teams.

Cathedral (9-2, 1-0) won the game with two solid quarters. The Green Wave took a 12-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and then used a 20-13 advantage in the third quarter to take a 48-31 lead.

Lucas had a solid performance for Cathedral with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Jamerson Jones also had a big game for the Green Wave as he finished with 12 points. Brian Robinson led Bogue Chitto with a game-high 17 points.

Tensas Academy girls 65, River Oaks 22

MONROE, La. — Mary Miller Ratcliff led a balanced scoring attack with a game-high 15 points as the Lady Chiefs rolled to an easy win on the road over the Lady Mustangs Tuesday night.

Tensas Academy (6-5) jumped out to a 22-10 lead after one quarter of play and then held Class AA River Oaks to just one point in the second quarter as the Lady Chiefs took a commanding 39-11 halftime lead and never looked back.

Kaitlen Emfinger scored 10 points and Jordan Leake had nine points for Tensas. Tess Osborne led River Oaks with 10 points.

Jefferson County boys 57, South Pike 35

MAGNOLIA — Percy Turner and Kadon Day combined to score 40 points as the Tigers overcame a sluggish start to defeat the Eagles by 22 points Tuesday night in Region 7-3A action.

Turner led Jefferson County (8-6, 1-0) with a game-high 21 points and Day scored 19 points. The Tigers and the Eagles were tied at 10-10 at the end of the first quarter, but the Tigers started to pull away from the Eagles in the second quarter. Bonderrick Ellcey led South Pike with 11 points.

Centreville Academy girls 42, ACCS 18

CENTREVILLE — Emily Gaulden scored a game-high 13 points and Amber Addington had 12 points as the Lady Tigers rolled to a 24-point win over the Lady Rebels Tuesday night.

Centreville took control of the game right from the start and, with the exception of the third quarter, never let up. The Lady Tigers had a 16-2 lead after one quarter of play and a 30-7 lead by halftime.

Lindsey Barber, Sara Beth Fuller and Marlee Wadsworth led ACCS (2-9) with four points each.

Bogue Chitto girls 74, Cathedral 29

BOGUE CHITTO — Four players scored in double figures for the Lady Bobcats as they controlled the game from the opening tip en route to an impressive win over the Lady Green Wave in the Region 8-1A opener for both teams Tuesday night.

Adrienne Hall led Bogue Chitto with a game-high 15 points. Darcy Miller finished with 14 points, Kelli Howard added 12 points and Shelby Tobias chipped in with 11 points for the Lady Bobcats.

Cathedral (2-9, 0-1) trailed 16-5 at the end of the first quarter and never was able to get back in the game. Anna Huffines led the Lady Green Wave with seven points and Haley Forman had six points.

Vidalia boys 90, Tensas Parish 56

ST. JOSEPH, La. — Led by Spencer Reynolds and Gary Stewart, the Vikings used a big third quarter to pull away from the Panthers Tuesday night to improve to 7-2.

Tensas Parish stayed right with Vidalia early on in the game and trailed by just two points at the end of the first quarter. But the Vikings relied on their defense over the next two quarters to put the Panthers away.

Vidalia outscored Tensas Parish 18-10 in the second quarter to take a 37-27 lead at halftime and 28-12 in the pivotal third quarter for a commanding 65-39 lead. Reynolds led the Vikings with 18 points and Stewart had 17 points.

Centreville Academy boys 56, ACCS 43

CENTREVILLE — Cade Lockwood scored 16 points and Jamie Dezendorf added 12 points as the Tigers used a 13-2 advantage in the third quarter to defeat the Rebels Tuesday night.

Kyle Brown chipped in with 11 points for Centreville (4-2), which led by only four points after one quarter of play and by just six points at halftime before pulling away in the third quarter.

ACCS (1-8) outscored Centreville 14-9 in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough. Dustin Carroll led the Rebels with 12 points while Luke Brumfield and Hunter Russ had eight points each.

Tensas Parish girls 51, Vidalia 32

ST. JOSEPH, La. — The Lady Vikings played well in the first half on the road Tuesday night, but a big third quarter helped the Lady Panthers take a 19-point win.

Even though the Lady Vikings (2-7) scored just four points in the first quarter, they managed to hold the Lady Panthers to just nine points. The second quarter was more of the same as Tensas Parish could only get a 12-10 edge for a 21-14 halftime lead.

But the Lady Panthers put the game away by outscoring the Lady Vikings 13-4 to take a 34-18 lead into the fourth quarter. Rachael Wagoner led Vidalia with 17 points. Shanise Yarmington led Tensas Parish with a game-high 18 points and Whitney Darden had 16 points.
