MEADVILLE — Cathedral midfielder Joanna David scored two goals in the second half as the Lady Green Wave defeated the Franklin County Lady Dawgs 4-1 Friday night to remain undefeated in Division 7-1A/2A/3A.
“We had an excellent second half. We had a good first half, although we got flat toward the end of the half,” Lady Green Wave head coach David Gaudé said.
Madeline Jeansonne scored the only goal of the first half on a penalty kick after Franklin County was called for a handball to give the Lady Green Wave a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Cathedral kept the ball on Franklin County’s side for much of the second half, resulting in three goals. Lani Griffith scored in the fifth minute and David scored her first goal at the 18th minute and her second at the 36th minute.
“We got tough and we went head to head with them,” Gaudé said. “We did some shooting and did some scoring. Our midfield did a good job pushing the ball up the field.”
The win was the fourth in a row for the Lady Green Wave, which improved to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in division play.
Cathedral boys 2, Franklin County 1
MEADVILLE — Hunter Foster scored the game-winning goal with a minute left in the second half to lead the Green Wave past the Bulldogs Friday night in Region 7-1A/2A/3A action.
“It was a very physical game. We wanted it a little more than they did,” Green Wave first-year head coach Rick Simons said. “It was a tough game. The boys pulled through and I’m proud of them.”
As for Foster’s game-winner, Simons said, “It came down to the last minute. We never gave up. We fought for the ball and (Foster put) it into the back of the net. I’m very pleased with the way they played.”
Cathedral (6-5, 2-1) took a 1-0 lead on a goal by David Jeansonne in the first half. Franklin County tied the score at 1-1 later on in the game before Foster won it for the Green Wave.
