VIDALIA — Vidalia police are searching for suspects in the weekend burglary of a Carter Street business.
The Olde River Cleaners, located at 717 Carter St., was burglarized sometime over the weekend, Police Chief Billy Hammers said.
The burglars entered the building through a side window where they would not be seen, and took a computer, an undetermined amount of cash and some checks made out to the business, Hammers said.
The vandals also stole a cash register and a stereo, Olde River Cleaners owner Ricky Knapp said.
“What hurt the most was the computer they took, because it had all my accounting software and all of my business credentials on it,” Knapp said.
The business is looking at a probable loss of between $5,000 and $10,000, he said.
This was not the first time the business has been burglarized, Knapp said, and after an incident six years ago he didn’t think to take the precaution of putting bars over the windows.
“I am in the process of making arrangements to fix that right now,” Knapp said.
The police do not have any suspects at this time, but they did collect several partial fingerprints at the scene of the crime, Hammers said.
