The boys team (6-15, 2-1) raced out to a 8-0 lead, before watching Tylertown (2-14, 0-5) come from behind to make the game interesting by cutting the deficit to 13-11 after one quarter of play and 27-22 at the half.

“We’re just not getting the effort out there to match our opponents,” said FC head coach Chris Jordan. “We’ve got to do better.”

Franklin County junior Jamie Collins, who netted a game high 18 points kept Franklin County ahead most of the game until an ankle sprain sidelined him late in the fourth quarter.

With Collins nursing the injury on the bench, Tylertown rallied and tied the game at 54-all at the end of regulation to force overtime.

The Bulldogs and Chiefs matched baskets the first two minutes of the extra period, until steals by senior guard Jarvis Hunt and some clutch down the stretch baskets from him and senior teammates Jason Hunt and Michael Allen silenced the Chiefs.

“We played without two starters because they missed practice,” said Jordan, who annually has one of the most disciplined teams in the state. “We’ve got a lot of things we need to work on before our next game.”

Jason Hunt had 17 points and eight rebounds for the Bulldogs in the victory. Jarvis Hunt added 14 points and dished out seven assists. He also made four steals.

For Tylertown, Cornelius Lee led the Chiefs with 14 points.

The Lady Bulldogs, coached by Charles Moore used several big plays from its upperclassmen to overcome an 11-7 deficit in the first quarter.
