Snow causes game cancelation

NATCHEZ — While the morning snowfall across South Mississippi might have been a welcome sight to most people, it was not what Cathedral boys basketball coach Peter Arnold wanted at all.

The snowfall caused Cathedral’s scheduled home game against Resurrection out of Pascagoula to be postponed until Monday, Jan. 28.

“(Resurrection’s) principal had to make the call this morning and decided it was too risky to make the drive over here,” Arnold said. “The weather turned out OK in the afternoon, but this morning, you just didn’t know how long it was going to continue or how much was going to fall.”

Arnold said even though he was disappointed in the decision, it was something he understood.

“They had to come from Pascagoula so they had to make a quick decision this morning,” Arnold said. “Their principal thought the smartest thing to do would be to not make the trip. It’s something we’ll have to roll with.”

The postponement was definitely something Arnold did not want, since his Green Wave team surprisingly lost 57-54 to Bogue Chitto last night.

“I wanted us to get back on that horse as fast as we could,” Arnold said. “We definitely wanted to play today after last night’s loss, but it’s just one of those things.”

Cathedral dropped to 16-5 overall and 5-2 in district play with last night’s loss.

The Green Wave will return to action at St. Aloysius in a non-district game. They will jump back into district play on Jan. 29 when they travel to play Dexter.
