Cathedral students selling magazines

NATCHEZ — Cathedral School is sponsoring its annual magazine/music sale from Thursday through Feb. 13.
The program involves selling new or renewal subscriptions to over 900 of the most popular magazines in the country. Also available is a selection of books and educational and popular compact discs. Forty percent of the cost of the subscriptions is retained as Cathedral’s profit, said sale co-chairman Betty Lou Hicks.
Proceeds are used for a variety of projects, including teacher workshops, software, and supplemental classroom supplies. Much of the 2007 proceeds helped fund the elementary playground improvements made this past summer. Some profits are used for special events such as class retreats and prom, as well as for organizations.
Participating students also earn prizes.
Most households in the Miss-Lou already subscribe to several different magazines, Hicks said. By renewing subscriptions or ordering new magazines through Cathedral, area residents keep money in Natchez that would otherwise leave the community. In addition subscribers can provide entertaining, informative and educational reading materials in the home or office.
Anyone who wishes to renew current subscriptions or would like to order new ones may contact any Cathedral student in kindergarten through 12th grade.
If one chooses to renew an existing subscription, it will be extended one full year from the current expiration date. Prices during the sale are competitive and up to 75 percent lower than newsstand prices.
