Joseph Pecanty

ACME — Services for Joseph T. “Joe T.” Pecanty, 88, of Acme, La., who died Friday, Jan. 25, 2008, at Riverland Medical Center, were 2 p.m. Monday at Acme Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Gammill and the Rev. John Cooper officiating.
Burial followed at Acme Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.
Mr. Pecanty was born Oct. 30, 1919, in Acme, La., the son of Joseph Louis and Vala Morace Pecanty. He was a lifelong resident of Acme. He worked as a commercial fisherman, farmer and served as police juror for three terms. He was a member of the Acme Baptist Church and he proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Tillman and Sherman Pecanty; two sisters, Lizzie Sandige and Mary White; son, Leonard Pecanty and wife Jo Anne.
Survivors include his wife, Bertha Hunter Pecanty, daughter, Margaret Hawkes and her husband Gary of Vidalia; seven grandchildren, Jason Hawkes, Jessica and Jared Usey, Jennifer and Shaun Savoie, Jeremy and Janie Pecanty; four great-grandchildren, Hailey and Emma Savoie, Eric and Rae Anne Usey; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Max Knapp Jr., Alton Pecanty, Jimmy Little, Jeffery Paul, Shaun Savoie and Bobby Joe Sandige.
The honorary pallbearers were Charles Ray Bordelon, Huey Pecanty, Bob Watson, Gary Hawkes, Scotty Emfinger, Larry Day, Tommy Tiffee and Dr. Herman Gibson.
