COUSHATTA, La. — The Tensas Academy Lady Chiefs were in a good position to pull out a victory in the MPSA Region 6-A Tournament consolation game. However, they just didn’t have the energy to finish the game.

The Lady Chiefs fell to Tallulah Academy 47-42 in a sloppy, defensive game Saturday afternoon.

The game was close all the way through, with Tallulah taking a 25-23 lead at halftime.

They extended the lead to 35-32 at the end of the third quarter but Tensas Academy fought back early in the fourth quarter to take a one-point lead.

However, Tallulah recovered and was able to retake the lead and pull away for the win.

“Both teams were tired because we had played yesterday,” Tensas coach Allen Crigler said. “But they fought a little bit better than we did in the fourth quarter and were able to come out with the win.”

Tallulah was led by the duo of Mary Beth Givens and Anna Beth Book, who both scored 20 points. No other player for Tallulah scored more than four.

Mary Miller Ratcliff led the Lady Chiefs with 14 points while Kaitlen Emfinger scored 12 and Jordan Leake added six points in the losing effort.

With the loss, Tensas will be the No. 4 seed in the MPSA Class A South State Tournament that begins Monday.

They will play their first game in the tournament either Monday or Tuesday.
