NATCHEZ — The man who was accidentally shot in the jaw at a Sunday evening dice game has died.

Gershin Mason, 18, was reportedly at the dice game at the Cedarhurst Apartment complex with several others when a tussle to get a gun away from Mason — who was reportedly playing with it — resulted in the gun discharging at approximately 5 p.m.

“Two guys were just wrestling for the gun,”

Natchez Police Investigator Sgt. Craig Godbold said. “One of them was playing with it and the other one was trying to take it away when the gun went off.”

Mason was transported by ambulance to Natchez Regional Medical Center at the time.

A witness at the scene said several men were seen fleeing the area after the shooting.

The police recovered the gun and two men were taken for questioning at the time.

All of the statements the police have taken since the shooting line up, Godbold said.

The shooting is being treated as accidental.
