Police identify suspect in Sunday shooting

NATCHEZ — Police have identified a suspect in a Sunday incident in which a man was shot in the leg.
Gerry D. Byrd, 17, is wanted for aggravated assault for the shooting of Dwayne Young, 19.
The shooting took place Sunday at 4 p.m. on Dumas Drive.
Natchez Police Sgt. Craig Godbold said Byrd is being charged as an adult despite being 17 since the case has been classified as aggravated assault.
Godbold said anybody with information of the whereabouts of Byrd should call the Crime Stoppers at 601-442-5000.
He said there is a reward for information.
Godbold said his last known residence was 2-B Saragossa Road but he cannot be currently located.
“He knows we’re looking for him,” Godbold said.
Young has been treated at and released from Natchez Community Hospital for the gunshot wound that tore through his left upper thigh, exiting his inner thigh and continuing past through his right thigh.
The gun has not yet been recovered, Godbold said.
