ERRIDAY — A Ferriday man has been arrested after attempting to commit a rape last Wednesday.
Charles D. Washington, 23, 612 Sixth St., was charged with attempted forcible rape Feb. 13.
Washington allegedly tried to push a woman into her car at the corner of Virginia Avenue and E.E. Wallace Boulevard, but the victim was able to grab a pot on the seat of the car and beat him away, Ferriday Police Investigator Johnny Evans said.
Washington also allegedly left the scene of that attempted crime and took a pair of shoes and a cup of coins from a nearby car, Evans said.
When police apprehended him, Washington allegedly still had the shoes in his possession.
Washington is being detained on a $85,000.
