Spring is almost here, music is in the air once again and the Natchez Festival of Music is gearing up for the musical month of May!
It’s hard to believe, but this will be our 18th season. As we look back, we have accomplished much over the years in building this festival. We are moving forward to further the development of a true performing arts center (Margaret Martin).
In spite of all the monies spent on the continuous upgrading of our facilities (computerized lighting, climate control, improved appearance, more comfortable seating) we are near paying off our long term capital improvement loans. Yes, we are almost out of debt.
The Natchez Festival of Music is presenting our first concert/fundraiser of 2008 at Brandon Hall at 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
We will be showcasing the return of pianist Hyperion Knight from New York, whose 2007 Festival performance at The Towers was sold out.
He will once again be performing memorable classical and contemporary favorites. We will also be featuring the talented husband and wife duo, Jessica and Michael Bunchman. Michael is an acclaimed pianist and will be a festival accompanist for the entire month of May.
Jessica, an exceptional soprano, will also be featured in May in a variety of Main Stage roles. They will be performing a cabaret-style set which will include show tunes and opera highlights.
The concert, with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, will be at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at historic Brandon Hall Plantation (use Natchez Trace Entrance to House).
Tickets are $50 to $100 and are available through Natchez Pilgrimage Tours 601-446-6631 or at the door Sunday afternoon. We hope to see you there.
Paris B. WINN is chairman of the Natchez Festival of Music.
