NATCHEZ — Despite being out-hit seven to three, the Franklin County Bulldogs defeated the Vidalia Vikings 5-3 Friday night at the Cathedral Round Robin Tournament at Chester Willis Field.

“We played good defense and Colton Laird threw a lot of strikes,” Franklin County head coach Jeremy Loy said.

After Vidalia scored the game’s first run in the top of the second inning, Franklin County scored two runs in the bottom of that same inning to take the lead. The Bulldogs added another run in the bottom of the third for a 3-1 lead.

The Vikings cut the Bulldogs’ lead to 3-2 in the top of the fourth, but the Bulldogs responded with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Vikings tried to rally in the top of the fifth, but could only manage one run.

Vidalia didn’t help its cause by walking six batters and hitting three more.

“That gave us our base runners,” Loy said.

Laird also led Franklin County at the plate with a double. Seth Barlow had a double for Vidalia.
