Remember good news of February

The last two weeks of February were full of news, good and bad. But before we say goodbye to the month, let’s remember a few of the good things that made headlines last week.
Sometimes bad things end positively. Jefferson County and Adams County shared similar experiences with circuit clerks last year. Both men were found to be responsible for embezzling taxpayer money. But in Jefferson County this week, the state did what it could to make things right.
Representatives from the state auditor’s office brought a check for $200,000 to the county last week as a reimbursement of sorts. County officials say the money will go a long way in a financially struggling community.
Light bulbs were buzzing, plants were growing and young scientists filled the hallways at Cathedral School this week. The school had its annual science fair and some of the projects were really top notch. We are glad to see our youngsters involved in hands on learning.
Another example of bad turned good came from the Adams County Sheriffs Office this week. The ACSO, in response to a recent crime wave, announced plans to offer a firearms safety class targeted at women. The county has seen an increase in the number of women buying firearms, and the sheriff wants to make sure everyone stays safe.
The course — for which a time is not yet set — will be a great learning opportunity for members of our community.
With Pilgrimage only a week away, it’s time for the Miss-Lou to put on its best face and wait for the good news to roll on in.
