VIDALIA — The Ferriday man accused of the murder of a woman in his Carolina Avenue residence made his first appearance in court Monday.
LaFarron DeShon Goodman, 26, 505 Carolina Ave., was arrested last Thursday on charges of second-degree murder in relation to the death of Natasha Bates, 23, of Jackson.
Goodman was magistrated by the Ferriday Police Department before the Judge Kathy Johnson in the Seventh District Judicial Court in Vidalia Monday.
Johnson set Goodman’s bond at $125,000.
The court also appointed Goodman’s case to the public defender’s office.
Goodman was arrested after allegedly confessing to the murder late Thursday night.
The Ferriday police responded to a call Thursday evening about a deceased person at Goodman’s residence, and when they arrived on the scene, Bates was found dead with a single gunshot wound to the left temple.
The police reportedly recovered a weapon at the scene.
Bates was pronounced dead on the scene, and it was later determined she had been dead for more than one day.
Bates and Goodman reportedly had a romantic relationship, and the two were reportedly living together at the time.
Goodman had no prior criminal history.
Bates’ body was transported to Jefferson Parish for a full autopsy.
