Several local athletes named All-District

NATCHEZ — Numerous local high school basketball athletes were rewarded recently by being named to their respective MPSA All-District teams.

On the Class A level, 15 local players were named to either first team, second team or honorable mention District 6-A.

On the girls side, Tensas Academy’s Kaitlen Emfinger and Mary Miller Ratcliff were named to the first team.

They were joined on the team by teammate Jordan Leake, who was selected to the second team.

Huntington’s Phyllicia Woods and Donna Tarver and WCCA’s Hannah Ashley were also named to the second team.

On the boys side, WCCA’s Todd Gonda and Trumaine Norwood were named to the first team along with Huntington’s Tyler Peré and Tensas Academy’s Hunter Hale.

Huntington’s Jody Cottongin was named to the second team despite missing the beginning of the season with a broken collar bone.

Two more Huntington players, Kevin Brown and Josh Guillory were named honorable mention as were Tensas’ Bennett Schauf and Phillip Carpenter.

Trinity Episcopal dominated the first team selections in the District 3-AA All-District Team, especially on the girls side.

Caroline Ketchings, Madelyn Cross, Molly Butts and Brandy Hall all represented the Lady Saints on the first team. They were joined on the first team by Sara Beth Fuller of ACCS.

Two more Lady Rebels, Chelsea Freeman and Marlee Wadsworth were named to the second team.

Trinity coach Melanie Hall was also named the district’s coach of the year.

Trinity also put four players on the boys All-District Team, including three on the first team.

Matthew Freeman, Andrew Johnson and Brandon Daggs were all selected for the first team, while Parker Brumfield was named to the second team.

Also named to the second team were Phillip Breland and Luke Brumfield of ACCS.
