WCCA splits series

AMITE, La. — The Wilkinson County Christian Academy Rams split a varsity doubleheader with the Oak Forest Academy Yellow Jackets Thursday night. WCCA won the first game 7-6 in nine innings and Oak Forest won the second game 2-1.

In the first game, winning pitcher Brandon Simon gave WCCA a 6-5 lead with a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning. But Oak Forest sent the game into extra innings by scoring one run in the bottom of the seventh.

After a scoreless eighth inning, Sutton Olive led off the top of the ninth with a single. He then stole second base and moved to third base on an Oak Forest error before scoring on a fielder’s choice by Simon.

Simon ended up with three hits in the game while Brennan Bush went 2-for-3. WCCA won the game despite giving up 14 hits.

In the second game, Newstrom (no first name given) hit a solo home for Oak Forest as the Yellow Jackets took a 2-0 lead at the end of the second inning. Winning pitcher Banos held WCCA (4-5) to just one run on four hits. Lane McCarty had two of the Rams’ hits and Cody Cullen had a double.
