Bulldogs finish third in meet

NATCHEZ — Coach Larry Wesley’s Natchez High track team completed a successful weekend at the West Feliciana High School in St. Francisville, La.

Both the boys and girls track and field teams finished third in the meet.

The boys team finished with 120 points while the girls team finished with 100 points.

Rico Richardson finished eighth individually overall for the Natchez boys while Reggie Thomas finished 14 overall individually. On the girls side, Pam Selmon finished second overall individually while teammate Alicia Wimley was right behind in third.

In boys individual events, Jeremy Davis finished third in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.88 seconds while Calvin Barber was 11th with a time of 12.01 seconds.

Barber finished fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 21 seconds while Davis was sixth with a time of 24 seconds.

In the 400 meters, Travis Woods was fifth with a time of 56 seconds while Raymond Williams was ninth with a time of 57 seconds.

Wayne Thomas finished eighth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:26.

In the 1,600 meters, Reggie Thomas was seventh with a time of 6:41 while Jay Abbot was eighth with a time of 6:01.

Thomas and Abbot also finished well in the 3,200 meters, with Thomas finishing third with a time of 12:42 and Abbot coming in 12th with a time of 14:00.

In the 110 meter hurdles, Wesley Pennington finished fourth with a time of 18 seconds.

Pennington also finished well in the 300 meter hurdles, placing third with a time of 43 seconds.

The 4-by-100 meter relay team of Richardson, Pennington, Davis and Gabriel Campbell placed third with a time of 44.38 seconds while the team finished third in the 4-by-200 meter relay as well with a time of 1:34.

In the 4-by-400 meter relay, the team consisting of Wayne Thomas, DeShawn Griggs, Travis Woods and Pennington placed sixth with a time of 3:46.

Griggs also placed third in the high jump with a jump of 5’4 while Barber was sixth in the pole vault with a leap of 8’6.

Richardson was sixth in the long jump with a leap of 19’8 while Davis was eighth in that event with a leap of 17’9.

Richardson won the triple jump with a vault of 42’4 while Griggs was sixth with a leap of 37 feet even.

In the shotput, Larry Brown was third with a heave of 38’8. Brown also took third in the discus with a toss of 109 feet.

Ryan Nelson was sixth in the javelin with a throw of 114 feet.

In the girls individual events, Sierra Bates was fifth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.42 seconds while Shareka Miller was 12th with a time of 14.72 seconds.

Bates was second in the 200 meters with a time of 28 seconds while Jessica Gayle was third in the 400 meters with a time of 1:05.9.

Selmon won the 800 meters with the time of 2:40 and was second in the 1,600 meters with a time of 6:18.

Wimley showed off her talent in the hurdles, finishing second in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.92 seconds and third in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 51 seconds.

The NHS relay teams also performed well, finishing fifth in the 4-by-100 meter relay with a time of 55 seconds, fourth in the 4-by-200 meter relay with a time of 1:51 and fourth in the 4-by-400 meter relay with a time of 4:39.

In the field events, Ashley Minor was fourth in the high jump with a leap of 4’4 while Wimley was second in the long jump with a leap of 15’8.

Wimley won the triple jump with a vault of 34 feet even.
