NHS track girls finish fifth

natchez — The Natchez High girls track and field team had a successful time at the University of Southern Mississippi Invitational, finishing fifth in a field of 30 teams.

The boys team didn’t perform so well, finishing 18th in a field of teams that included schools from Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee.

Leading the way for the girls was Alicia Wimley, who finished first in the triple jump with a leap of 35 feet and six inches. Wimley also placed fourth in the 300 meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 44.01 seconds.

Also performing well for the girls was Sierra Bates, who finished eighth in the 100 meters with a time of 13.31 seconds. Keyena Miller placed 21st in the 800 meters with a time of 2:59.

The Natchez High girls relay teams also performed very well in the meet.

The team finished fifth in the 4-by-200 meters with a time of 1:49.22 and fourth in the 4-by-100 meters with a time of 41.66 seconds. They also won the 4-by-400 meters with a time of 4:23.

In the boys events, Gabe Campbell finished 22nd in the 100 meters with a time of 11.85 seconds while Casey Barber was 25th in the event with a time of 12.05 seconds.

In the 200 meters, Jeremy Davis placed 13th with a time of 23.32 seconds while Barber was 24th with a time of 24.39 seconds.

Danzell Fort carried the banner for NHS in the 400 meters, finishing 19th with a time of 55.21 seconds while Travis Woods was right behind in 20th with a time of 55.45 seconds.

In the 800 meters, Jamon Abbott was 34th with a time of 2:30 while Reggie Thomas was 36th with a time of 2:33.

Thomas and Abbott also placed in the 3,200 meters, with Thomas finishing 22nd with a time of 11:54 and Abbott placing 33rd with a time of 13:26.

In the 110 meter hurdles, Donald Bates placed 22nd with a time of 17.90 seconds while Fort was 26th with a time of 18.90 seconds.

Wesley Pennington finished well in the 300 meter hurdles, placing 11th with a time of 44.02 seconds.

Larry Brown finished 27th in the discus with a toss of 96 feet while Justin Hamilton was 31st with a fling of 91 feet.

Brown placed well in the shotput, coming in 10th with a throw of over 40 feet while Hamilton was 20th with a heave of 38 feet.

Rico Richardson placed sixth in the triple jump, leaping 42 feet, 10 inches and Barber jumped eight feet in the pole vault.

Davis was 32nd in the long jump, leaping just over 19 feet.

In the relay events, the Natchez High relay team finished eighth in the 4-by-100 meter relay with a time of 44.19 seconds and eighth in the 4-by-200 meter relay with a tie of 1:30.90. They also placed fifth in the 4-by-400 meter relay with a time of 3:38.42.
