NATCHEZ — Thanks to a one-hitter pitched by Preston Edwards, the Cathedral Green Wave shut out the visiting North Pike Jaguars 7-0 Monday evening.

Edwards pitched solid all night and didn’t allow a hit until the sixth inning when Keiron Robinson knocked a single to right field.

“I was very pleased with our effort tonight,” Cathedral head coach Craig Beesley said. “We played great mentally.”

Cathedral (8-2, 4-0) had a 1-0 lead when they broke the game wide open with a five run third inning.

Edwards hit a single to right field that scored Braxton Fondren and Aaron White followed with a single to right field that scored Jesse Morrison.

North Pike committed three errors in the inning that led to Cathedral scoring three more runs after White’s single.

Cathedral scored one more insurance run in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single by Blasé Bradford that scored Hunter Foster.

Edwards struck out the first two Jaguar batters in the top of the seventh and Daniel Jenkins made a diving catch to rob Robbie Hill of a single and seal the victory for Cathedral.

“Our whole group played very well tonight,” Beesley said. “Hopefully this will jump start our season.”

Edwards notched the win for Cathedral while Casey Paulk was handed the loss for North Pike.

Edwards was 2-4 with two singles and an RBI while Foster went 2-3 with two singles and an RBI.
