BUDE — Melissa McFarland had one of her best games on the mound this season as she led the Franklin County Lady Bulldogs to a 5-1 win over the Vicksburg Missy Gators in Tuesday night softball action.

McFarland pitched all seven innings, not allowing a run until the seventh inning while striking out 12 Vicksburg batters and giving up just four hits.

“She did a good job. She was relaxed. She was hitting her spots,” Franklin County head coach Dana Smith said. “Luckily, the wind was working with her, too.”

The two teams combined for 13 hits in the game, yet all of them went for singles.

The Lady Bulldogs ended up with nine hits with Desiree Buie leading the way with a 3-for-3 performance and Taylor Stewart was 2-for-3 in the game.

“The wind had something to do with some fly-outs, but not the singles,” Smith said.

Franklin County, 10-4 overall, will host North Pike in a Division 7-3A match-up today at 2 p.m.
