VIDALIA — Coming off a 3-1 win over Bunkie the day before, the Vidalia Lady Vikings continued to roll and took a 6-2 district win over the visiting Avoyelles Lady Mustangs.

Vidalia (11-5, 4-0) backed up a strong pitching performance by Brittany Whittington with stout defense and didn’t allow Avoyelles to gain any momentum during the game.

“We executed our plays well,” Vidalia head coach Jeanne Hall said. “I am very pleased with the way we hit the ball.”

The Lady Vikings took a two- run lead after the third, but the Lady Mustangs came back and scored a run in the top of the fourth to close the gap to one.

Vidalia couldn’t feel comfortable about their lead until a three run fifth inning helped the Lady Vikings gain momentum.

Chelsea Warren hit an RBI double to start the scoring for the Lady Vikings.

Kassi Randall and Mary Katherine Golden followed Warren with an RBI single each to allow Vidalia to pull away with the district victory.

Whittington allowed only one hit in the last two innings and the Lady Vikings remained perfect in district play.

“I am very proud of the way our girls played,” Hall said. “It was a great team effort.”

Whittington notched the win for Vidalia while Jessica Gremillion took the loss for Avoyelles.

Randall went 2-for-3 for the Lady Vikings with a double, a single and two RBIs in the contest.

Lacey Valois went 2-for-3 for the Lady Mustangs with two singles.

Vidalia faces Marksville Thursday in a home district game.
