CLAYTON – Services for Essie Mae Lewis, 81, of Ferriday, who died Sunday, March 16, 2008, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 11 a.m. today at St. Mark Baptist Church with the Rev. Dave Mays officiating.
Burial will follow at Ferriday Cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Mrs. Lewis was born Feb. 8, 1927, in Waterproof, the daughter of Adam and Katie Humphrey Holmes. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Chester and Eddie L. Carter; and one great-granddaughter, Gabrielle Carter.
Survivors include her husband, Robert L. Lewis Jr.; three sons, Leslie Carter and wife, Clara, LaVon Carter and Anthony Holmes; four daughters, Pinkey M. Thomas and husband, Chris, and Betty Jean Carter, all of Ferriday, Vera Cowan and husband, James, both of Atlanta and Annice Jackson and husband, Gary, both of Ruston, La.; two sisters, Dorothy Forman of Vidalia and Emma Lee Holmes of Ferriday; 28 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
