NATCHEZ — Several youth sports leagues are having signups or registration meetings in the near future, and league organizers are anxious for area kids to sign up.

Two baseball leagues are in the process of signing kids up and tryouts will be coming up soon as well.

The Natchez Dixie Youth Baseball League has concluded signups, but tryouts for the league will be at 5 p.m. March 24 at Duncan Park.

The 13 and 14-year-old Dixie Boys league is also having signups.

Interested participants can sign up at Sports Center until the end of the month. For more information about the league, contact D.D. Smith at 601-597-4363.

The T.M. Jennings Little League is also conducting signups during the month of March.

Registration for the league is at Martin Gym March 22 and 29 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and at Frazier Primary School Field from March 31 through April 3 and April 7 through 10.

Tryouts will also be on those days. For more information, contact Eric Fry at 601-807-1615.

Baseball leagues are not the only ones having registrations and tryouts. The Natchez Girls Softball League will have registration through Saturday at Sports Center.

New players will need to bring a copy of their birth certificate to play. For more information about that league, call Bridget Wactor at 601-446-7757 or Belinda Brashier at 601-446-7527.

There is also a youth football league in town that is looking for interested players to sign up for the league.

Von Hutchins of the Atlanta Falcons and Mississippi Youth Sports Association are inviting all kids ages 6-12 to participate in a new league that he is trying to start in Natchez.

Potential players, cheerleaders and coaches are invited to a meeting tonight at 6 in the Steckler Multi-Purpose Center on the Natchez High campus where Hutchins will explain the league and answer any questions.

The meeting is very important as it will allow the MYSA to assess how interested the people of Natchez are in having a youth football league.
