Hey, it’s me again. This time I’m talking to all you grandparents, parents and 11th-grade young men. If you want to widen your horizons, thicken your network of friends and future business and government associates, then this is a nationwide stepping stone to propel you ahead of those who haven’t a clue. What is it?

Boys State. Where is it and when? At Copiah-Lincoln Community College, Wesson, Saturday, May 24 to Friday, May 30.

Who is eligible? Eleventh-grade boys who want to learn more about the operations of state, county and municipal government in one week than in an entire year of classroom civics instructions and you will have fun doing it. How do you get more information? Try www.msboysstate.com.

Now, you current 11th graders, if you think this will fit into your life goals, talk to your parents and I think they will agree and help.

If you aren’t sure if this fits in your life goals, then rethink how people get ahead in this world. They have a plan. Success doesn’t hit you in the face. You have to pursue worthy goals. Boys State is the place for you.

Now, you grandparents and parents, if you have a son that will be a senior in high school in 2009, you will do him a favor to encourage him to see his high school counselor and ask for an application.

Herbert J. Remondet Post 4 American Legion in Natchez is fortunate to sponsor this program for the future leaders of our state and nation. We need your support in spreading the word about Boys State.

To you school principals, please consider having one of your 12th graders who attended Boys State speak at one of your assemblies.

To any who attended Boys State, please offer to assist your alma mater in making this experience available to the current crop of tomorrow’s leaders.

Time’s a wasting, get cracking! Thanks for your support.

Erle Drane is member of the American Legion in Natchez.
