NATCHEZ — Services for Erin Locke Chesteen, 89, of Natchez, who died Friday, March 21, 2008, at Natchez Community Hospital of heart complications while recovering from recent surgery, will be at 3 p.m. today at Jefferson Street United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time today at the church.
A visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 28, 2008, at Lee Funeral Home in Winona.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 29, 2008, in her home community of Kilmichael.
Mrs. Chesteen was born June 15, 1918, in Kilmichael, the daughter of Benjamin and Artie Locke.
Mrs. Chesteen, who was a retired bookkeeper, attended both University of Southern Mississippi and MSCW and worked for the Hughes Aircraft Corp. during World War II as an assistant to the engineering group. She later married F.C. Chesteen, a career serviceman and lived abroad for approximately 10 years in various European cities. She returned to live in her hometown and retired from the Bank of Kilmichael, spending her retirement years active and in travel and genealogical pursuits. Mrs. Chesteen’s research resulted in 11 entries to the registry for the Daughters of the American Revolution in which she was a member of the Natchez Rosalie Chapter and honorary member of the Thomas Rodney Chapter in Winona.
Her recent travels included Ireland, home to numerous ancestors, Alaska, the New England seaboard, Mexico, two Caribbean cruises, Niagara Falls, Canada and the USS Carolina, all were enjoyed with longtime friend Joseph Paine and others. Her life was that of a strong Christian woman who placed her family first, and will be remembered as complete and lived to the fullest.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred C. Chesteen; one brother, Lawrence M. Locke and one nephew, Sidney Locke.
Survivors include one son, Tim G. Chesteen; three nephews, Benjamin Locke, Richard Brown and Buzz Biggers; two nieces, Barbara Brown and Janet Biggers; and other cousins and relations.
