Sample Whitehead

WOODVILLE – Services for Sample Douglas Whitehead, 99, of Woodville, who died Sunday, March 23, 2008, at his residence, will be at 11 a.m. today at Newman Funeral Home with the Revs. John Lamar Brown, David Lee Sheppard Jr. and Christopher Sheppard officiating.
Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, in Woodville, under the direction of Newman Funeral Home in Woodville.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home.
Mr. Whitehead was born Sept. 19, 1908, the son of Douglas Bryant and Carrie Morris Whitehead. He worked at Camp VanDorn and was retired from 7-Day Wholesale Grocery.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 60 years, Annie McGraw Whitehead; two sisters, Barbara Maher and Lena Stuart; and two brothers, Burlin Whitehead and Robert Whitehead.
Survivors include three daughters, Joy Brown and husband, the Rev. J. Lamar Brown, both of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Cynthia Sheppard and husband, Dr. David L. Sheppard Sr., both of Laurel, and Carrie Lynn Cupit and husband, Donny, both of Woodville; three sisters, Jenny Mildred “GG” Woffard, Maggie Beard and Ernestine Whitehead; nine grandchildren, Robin Gonda, Rebecca Brown, Debra Fowler, John Brown, David Lee Sheppard Jr., Christopher Sheppard, Cellie Scoggin, Rebecca Stockett and Joel Cupit; and 10 great-grandchildren, Todd Gonda, David Lee Sheppard III, Nicole Fowler, Natalie Fowler, Hannah Brown, Max Brown, Patrick Lee Scoggin, Tom Scoggin, Annie Sheppard and Maggie Sheppard.
Pallbearers will be David Lee Sheppard III, Timothy Todd Gonda Jr., Patrick Lee Scoggin, Larry Wayne Fowler, Timothy Todd Gonda Sr., Luther Beard, Robert Louis Whitehead, Jimmy Douglas Whitehead and Joel Kent Cupit.
Junior bearers will be John Lamar Brown III, Patrick Lee Scoggin Jr. and Thomas Clark Scoggin.
Honorary bearers will be Frankie Constantino, Charles Henry Fairchild, F.L. “Buck” Beard and Wilber Lee Beckham.
