NATCHEZ — Laura Perilloux and Ginny Daggett combined on a three-hit, nine-strikeout performance for Cathedral as the Lady Green Wave defeated Wesson 6-1 Friday afternoon at the Natchez-Adams Girls Softball Complex

Perilloux was the winning pitcher for Cathedral as she went the first four innings, striking out five and walking just one batter.

Daggett came on in relief to pitch the final three innings and she struck out four and walked four.

“Laura started out strong. The more pitching experience they get, the better,” Cathedral head coach Pam Clayton said.

The way Perilloux and Daggett were pitching, it appeared as if the Lady Cobras were going to be shut out.

But the shutout bid ended when Wesson scored its only run in the top of the sixth inning.

Cathedral (8-8) led 1-0 at the end of the first inning. However, the Lady Green Wave didn’t score a run off Mak Rials until the bottom of the fifth inning.

That’s when they put the game out of reach with five runs, which included an RBI double by Mae Durkin.

The Lady Green Wave had nine hits in the game, nearly half of them by Amanda Richardson, who went 4-for-4 with a double.

“Our betting was on. Our hitting was on,” Clayton said. “We were able to put everything together, both defensively and offensively.”

Cathedral will play at the Loyd Star Tournament in Brookhaven today against host Loyd Star at 4 p.m. and Pearl at 5:45 p.m.
