BROOKHAVEN — Led by the pitching of Alexis Cook and the hitting of Holli Smith, West Lincoln defeated an injury-depleted Cathedral team 11-1 in six inning Monday afternoon in Division 8-1A action.

Cook was sensational on the mound for the Lady Bears as she gave up just two hits and pitched five scoreless innings before the Lady Green Wave finally got a run across in the top of the sixth inning.

Smith provided most of West Lincoln’s offense at the plate by going 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles. The rest of the team had a combined three hits, but the Lady Bears also took advantage of three Cathedral errors.

The loss was the third in a row for Cathedral (8-11, 2-4). The Lady Green Wave will finish their season this week with a pair of varsity doubleheaders — first against division rival Salem on Thursday and then against cross-town rival Natchez High on Saturday afternoon.
