COUSHATTA, La. (AP) — Two young people are missing and feared drowned after a boating accident in the Red River in Red River Parish.
Sheriff Johnny Ray Norman says four others who were in the boat swam to safety.
Missing are a 16-year-old girl and a 21-year-old man.
The accident happened about 1 a.m. Thursday near Coushatta.
Norman said the group had just put the boat into the river to go fishing and were about 75 yards from shore when the boat began to sink.
Norman said it appeared the overloaded boat and the swift river current were factors in the accident.
Norman says none of those in the boat was wearing a life jacket.
