Ole Miss sweeps Vandy

OXFORD (AP) — Mississippi beat Vanderbilt 11-6 Sunday, completing its first sweep of a Southeastern Conference opponent since 2006.

The sweep vaults the Rebels to first place in the SEC West Division, one game ahead of Auburn.

Ole Miss (20-11, 7-5 SEC) pounded out 17 hits, including a 4-for-5 day from leadoff hitter Fuller Smith.

Cody Satterwhite (3-1) threw 6 2/3 innings to get the win. He gave up four runs on six hits and four walks, striking out five.

Vanderbilt (19-10, 5-6) falls to last place in the SEC East Division.

Kentucky bats top Miss. State

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Marcus Nidiffer and Chris McClendon each had three hits as Kentucky erased a 6-2 deficit to beat Mississippi State 9-8 on Sunday.

Nidiffer hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning as the Wildcats (25-5, 7-5 Southeastern Conference) scored four total runs to take a 7-6 lead.

Connor Powers hit three home runs, part of a 4-for-4, four RBI day to lead the Bulldogs (14-17, 3-9 SEC).

James Paxton (3-0) performed well at times in relief, working 3 1/3 innings and allowing two hits for the win.

E. Carolina wins series over USM

HATTIESBURG (AP) — Trent Whitehead drove in four runs and Justin Bristow struck out seven batters in eight innings as No. 24 East Carolina defeated No. 20 Southern Mississippi 11-3 on Sunday.

Whitehead drove in two of his runs in a five-run first for the Pirates (21-9, 5-4 Conference USA). He had a two-run home run in the third inning after Southern Miss (20-10, 5-4) had cut the early deficit to 5-2 in the bottom of the first.

Bristow (5-1) gave up 11 hits. Seth Simmons worked the ninth inning, allowing one hit and getting one strikeout to seal the win.
