Franklin County Bulldogs sweep Wilkinson County

BUDE — The Franklin County Bulldogs wrapped up Region 7-3A play with a doubleheader sweep of the Wilkinson County Wildcats Monday afternoon.

Franklin County won the first game 12-1 in three innings behind the pitching of Jordan Hunt, who threw a one-hitter. The Bulldogs blew the game open with 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Blaine Abernathy had a triple while Hunt and Ben McDowell each had a double.

In the second game, Dehendret Collins threw a no-hitter as the Bulldogs disposed of the Wildcats 11-0, also in three innings. Matt Lofton had the only extra-base hit with a double.

Franklin County improved to 17-3 overall and finished 12-0 in Region 7-3A. The Bulldogs will host Cathedral, which went undefeated in Region 7-1A, at 6 p.m. today.

Central Private 9, Centreville 5

CENTREVILLE — What was a close game for five innings took a turn as Central Private scored seven runs in the top of the sixth inning to put away the Rebels in an MPSA District 5-AA game.

Centreville led 1-0 after two innings of play, but Central Private tied the game in the top of the third inning and took the lead in the top of the fourth. But it wasn’t until the top of the sixth when the Rebels took control of the game.

The Tigers scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to make it a 9-5 game, but that would be as far as their rally would go.

Cade Lockwood went 2-for-4 with a double and Kyle Brown had a home run for Centreville (3-14, 3-4). Martrain had a home run and was the winning pitcher for Central Private (7-0 in 5-AA).

Bowling Green 16, WCCA 13

WOODVILLE — WCCA appeared to have had control of the game with a 12-7 lead after five innings of play, but the Rams couldn’t close the deal and the Buccaneers made them pay in the final two innings.

Bowling Green scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning to cut WCCA’s lead to 12-10 and then used a six-run rally in the top of the seventh to take a 16-12 lead that left the home team fans stunned.

The Rams could only muster up one run in the bottom of the seventh to close out the scoring. The two teams combined for 22 hits and eight errors in the game.

Miller had two doubles while Hughes and Milton each went 2-for-3 for Bowling Green. Lane McCarty went 2-for-3 with a triple and Brandon Simon was also 2-for-3 for WCCA (15-7).

Marksville 6, Vidalia 2

MARKSVILLE, La. — The Vikings (12-6) had a chance to take control of first place in District 3-3A. Instead, the lost a crucial game on the road at Marksville to fall into a tie for first place with the Tigers at 5-2.
