NATCHEZ — With a combined 35 runs, the Cathedral Green Wave swept over the visiting Dexter Bulldogs to finish undefeated in Region 8-1A.

Dexter managed to score a run in the second inning, but that would be the only offense for the Bulldogs, who lost 23-1

Cathedral scored three more in the second and four more in the third inning and came away with the victory after Dexter batted in the fourth inning.

“We played good defense and hit the ball very well,” Cathedral head coach Craig Beesley said. “It was a great team effort.”

Daniel Jenkins notched the win for the Green Wave while Joseph Lasseigne was dealt the loss for the Bulldogs.

Jenkins and Blasé Bradford led the Green Wave with a triple and single each.

Ethan Sayer collected the only hit for Dexter with a single in the third inning.

Cathedral 12, Dexter 1

In the second game of the doubleheader, Cathedral slowed down the offense, but scored enough to end the game after five innings of play.

Cathedral scored five runs after three straight singles by Jesse Morrison, Aaron White and Tyler Ballard and took an early lead over Dexter.

The Bulldogs managed to score a run in the fourth inning thanks to an early hit by Kevin Herring, but it wouldn’t be enough as the Green Wave piled up the runs and took the victory after five innings of play.

“Our younger guys came in and did a good job,” Beesley said.

Dylan White secured the win for the Green Wave while Herring was handed the loss for the Bulldogs.

White batted 3-for-3 for Cathedral with three singles.

Herring picked up the only hit for Dexter in the fourth inning.

Cathedral travels today to face Franklin County in a non-district match-up.
