NATCHEZ — A 7-year-old was killed in a vehicle accident on LaGrange Road Friday.
Janet Lynn Harr, of Natchez, was driving a 1995 Mitsubishi Gallant southbound on LaGrange Road when the vehicle left the road and hit a tree on the passenger side, Adams County Major Jody Waldrop said.
The car had three other passengers, all young children of Harr’s.
The child who was killed, Zachary Theriot, was riding in the passenger seat.
Adams County Coroner James Lee said Theriot was wearing his seat belt but sustained massive injuries to his head and neck.
“He was killed instantly,” Lee said. “He died on impact from the severity of the injuries.”
The Jaws of Life was used to remove Harr and the children from the car and they were taken to Natchez Regional Medical Center.
Waldrop said an officer at the scene said the injuries of the other passengers did not seem life threatening.
He said the reason for the car leaving the road is currently unknown.
“We’re investigating it at this time,” Waldrop said. “We do not know the cause; an investigation will be conducted. We’ll interview the driver and any witnesses and we’ll also review evidence at the scene.”
The Adams County Sheriff’s Office and the Natchez Fire Department responded to the call, which came in at 2:56 p.m.
